Dear Colleagues,
we would like to welcome you to the 2012 European Fly Neurobiology Meeting which will be held in Padua, Italy on September 3-7, 2012.
Since it’s inception, the European Fly Neurobiology Meeting, or Neurofly, has provided the unique opportunity of bringing together experts from different scientific fields sharing a common interest in the Drosophila nervous system. This model organism has proven to be of outstanding relevance for the elucidation of the basic mechanisms governing the functioning of the nervous system, in normal and pathological conditions, at the behavioural, physiological, genetic and molecular levels.
Padua with its 800 year-old University, represents an excellent venue for the 2012 Neurofly meeting. In our University the scientific revolution found highly fertile ground with renowned scientists such as Galileo Galilei, Andrea Vesalio, Gabriele Falloppio and William Harvey, who, through their discoveries, writings and thoughts opened the road to great advancements in the fields of Physics, Astronomy and Medicine.

The vibrant and favorable environment enabled by the Republic of Venetia, also embodied in the motto of our University (Universa universis patavina libertas, which translates as Paduan Freedom is Universal), attracted famous painters such as Giotto, who was the author of the famous frescoes represented in the Scrovegni Chapel, as well as illustrious students from all around Europe (Copernicus was among these). |
The centuries-old history of Padua and its University still continues today: Institutes, Departments and libraries are ubiquitously dispersed within both the old and the new parts of the city. Students and Professors are a fundamental part of the city. The life of our University is the life of the City, as embodied by the close proximity of Palazzo del Bo' (the main medieval University building) with the buildings that simbolise the city’s local government: Palazzo Moroni and Palazzo della Ragione.
